A first time for everything

Angel Before
Thomas Before
Thomas and Angel got their very first hair cuts. Angel's included donating her hair to Locks of Love! Locks of Love is an organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. I have donated my hair twice to Locks of Love, this is Angel's first time. I'm so happy to be able to donate her long-time grown hair to someone who needs it and will adore it. The decision to cut her hair was met with some speculation and un-easiness for her. But once we got there, she was excited. She seems to be such a different child with the hair gone. Isaiah said it best, "She looks like she has a new name!" Angel, "I'm still Angel" :) I caught her looking in the glass of the entertainment center at herself . When I told her she would be able to wear headbands more often, she got super excited. I didn't think I was the type of mom who cuts her girls with short hair. Her hair though was out of control! It is so thick and it was so long. A trim would've been about 5 or 6 inches and Locks of Love has to be at least 8, but I think they donated 10 inches. It is so much easier to brush, wash, take care of. I can't wait to play with all the different short hairstyles possible. Her Daddy likes it too, which is good.

Thomas, I wasn't sure about when we went to the salon. I soooo wanted to keep his curls and baby hair but...... It was in his face ALL the time. And I have to admit when he woke up from Night time or Nap time, he did look a little crazy with his hair everywhere. I thought if they are going to want to cut it, I'll just shave it all off to look like his Daddy like we did with Isaiah after an attempt to have a short/long hair cut (bowl cut) It lasted about a week on Isaiah, so I knew that wasn't an option. Plus that was like almost 15 years ago when that hair cut was in style right? Any way, Thomas was such a GOOD BOY! No tears, No fighting, just an "OK mommy" look from him. Lots of pictures. He got what Kim(the hair pro) called a "boy cut". They kept saying he needs to look like a little boy. She tried to save the curls in the back, but it was starting to look Mullet-esque, so boy cut, no buzz cut it was. I am so thrilled to see his eyes and have him run around without pulling food and dirt and boogers out of his hair. Mine is next..... I can't wait to get mine done. It has been since October 2008 since I have done anything with my hair! I know, it's at the bottom of my list to get done. Aren't us mommies always the last to get done? I wouldn't have it any other way. To me, they are way more important (especially when it comes to hair, mine can always take a back seat.) Nothing a pony-tail won't fix!
